PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY PLANNING...
It is important to know how to be prepared for public health emergencies such as disease outbreaks or natural disasters.  The San Juan County Nursing Service is committed to being a leader in these types of emergencies and has prepared detailed response plans for many kinds of problems.  This web site will be an important tool for SJCNS to communicate with the public before, during and after emergency situations arise.

WHAT TO DO IN THE EVENT OF A DISEASE OUTBREAK...
The San Juan County Nursing Service has the capability to provide immunizations and assistance in the unlikely event of a disease outbreak or bio-terrorist attack in our area.  However, a situation like this would require a multi-stage response.  Specifically, if vaccines were required, SJCNS would schedule each and every resident for an injection within a very short period of time.  However, it does not make sense to show up at the clinic and wait for hours for your turn.  Instead, residents will be called in by their town block of residence, in an orderly fashion.  You would be notified when it was your turn.
In case of a disease outbreak, SJCNS has detailed protocols for organizing a response of medical professionals and volunteers.  If you have questions about public health emergency planning in San Juan County, please contact Loretta St. George, Nursing Director at SJCNS.
The nursing service has included Biological Agent Fact Sheets that will provide our residents, businesses, emergency partners, and the media with clear and concise information about those agents that could be a threat to our community.  These threats are not only man-made, but natural as well.  If you do have any questions, please contact the nursing service at 970.387.0242.
